Hi, My name is Mark and I may be new to the Blog world, but I’m not new to the Employment world. In my Blog, I’m going to try to give you my thoughts and perspectives on what it takes to get a job and manage your career successfully. My entire career has been in Human Resources and I have worked for some pretty excellent name brand companies such as Frito Lay, Sherwin Williams, OfficeMax and Winn-Dixie. My last several assignments were as the Senior Vice President HR. Not saying I’m an expert, but I have been involved in the hiring and promotions of tens of thousands of people just like you. You’ve heard the expression “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” when it comes to job hunting. I partially disagree with that. I think it is both what AND who you know that will make it happen. We had that concept in mind when we created CareerShift.com, but more on that later. You are in an exciting time of your life. You’ve worked hard, received a good education, hopefully kept a few brain cells and now you are ready to get after that dream job. Now what? You can post your resume out in cyberspace, cross your fingers, and head off to the next kegger. Not going to happen, and statistics show that. Finding a job IS a job. It’s a process not an event. Work the process……………relentlessly. You need to use your resources. Your College Placement office is always a good place to start. They are there for you and it is their job to help you get organized.
